The Neti Pot: Nasal Cleansing Extraordinaire
The Neti Pot is a device that has been used for cleansing the nasal passages for thousands of years. First developed as a yogic technique for cleaning the internal side of the orifices of the body, the use of the neti pot, called jala neti (nasal washing), has spread throughout the world.
Using a neti pot is simple. Simply fill the pot with warm water and empty a single saline packet into the pot. The saline solution contains pristine Himalayan salt which works to eliminate bacteria and microbial life growing in the nasal passages. The spout of the neti pot fits perfectly into the nostril cavity. Place the spout in one nostril and tilt your head to the opposite side, beginning to tip the spout, pouring water into the
nasal cavity. This may take some practice as incorrectly pouring may cause water to go down the throat. Do not worry, as this is harmless. To avoid this from happening, keep your head parallel to your shoulders as you tilt, and keep your mouth open throughout use of the neti pot.
As you pour, water should be entering through one nostril, filling the nasal and sinus cavities of the face. These cavities are one of the first forms of defense against airborne bacteria and pathogens. Rinsing these
cavities with saline solution keeps them clean and unobstructed, allowing clean air to filter through them. Those who normally experience nasal or sinus issues will benefit from regularly using the neti pot, which provides relief from allergies, colds, sinus infections, dry air, and post-nasal drip.
The neti pot is safe for everyone, including children and pregnant women. At The Om Shoppe & Spa we stock neti pots that are ceramic and BPA free! Make sure to use pure, distilled water and pure saline solution for your nasal cleansing purposes!
