Our Story

A Search for Something Better

The OM Shoppe began in 2011 with founder Cindy Shannon

As Cindy explored sound, energy medicine and intentional wellness as part of her own journey, she had difficulty finding some of the products she was searching for, including crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls and genuine Himalayan salt products. So she began sourcing them herself.

What started as a personal search grew into an online store created to make high quality sound healing and wellness tools easier for other people to find.

From the beginning, education mattered too. The goal was not simply to sell products. It was to help people understand what they were choosing, why they might be drawn to it and how they could incorporate it into their own lives.

From Online Shoppe to a Real Wellness Home

By 2014, The OM Shoppe had grown beyond ecommerce.

A physical Sarasota location was opened, bringing retail, sound, wellness and education together in one place.

Customers could hear crystal and Tibetan singing bowls in person. They could compare instruments. Ask questions. Explore crystals and wellness products. And experience massage, sound healing, energy based services and other restorative offerings through the spa.

That expansion changed The OM Shoppe from an online retailer into something much more unusual: A place where people could shop, learn and receive care under one roof.

A New Chapter

Beth & Nancy Carry the Mission Forward

In 2016, The OM Shoppe reached another turning point. Cindy was preparing for a relocation, and it appeared the business might have to close. Beth Snyder had already been a longtime customer and client of The OM Shoppe.

As a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Beth had experienced the Shoppe as a place where she herself could recharge and reconnect before returning to work with her own clients.

She also brought decades of experience in business, sales, management and working directly with people. Nancy brought her own extensive management experience and a master's degree in mental health counseling. A conversation between Cindy, Beth and Nancy opened the door to a new possibility.

In September 2016, Beth and Nancy became the next stewards of The OM Shoppe. They did not take over with the intention of replacing what had been created. They wanted to preserve the mission, strengthen the business and expand the ways The OM Shoppe could be of service.

Woman Owned. Independent. Still Evolving.

Under Beth and Nancy's leadership, The OM Shoppe continued to grow as a woman owned, independently operated business. The retail collection expanded. The spa evolved. Sound healing became an even larger part of the business. Education grew substantially.

The OM Shoppe became a place where people could not only purchase instruments, but also learn how to use them, train professionally, receive wellness services and stay connected to a broader sound healing community. Over the years, the business has also had to adapt through enormous changes.

COVID

Closures

Supply Shortages

Shipping Disruptions

Tariffs

Inflation

Rising Costs

Changing Technology

And the ongoing challenge of operating an independent brick and mortar business in a world increasingly dominated by giant online retailers. Through all of it, The OM Shoppe continued. Not because the road was always easy.

Because the community kept showing up, and because Beth and Nancy continued believing in the value of what had been built.

What the OM Shoppe has Become

Today, The OM Shoppe is much more than the online store Cindy first imagined.

It is a woman owned wellness business.

  • A crystal singing bowl and sound healing instrument specialist.
  • A 3,200 square foot Sarasota showroom and wellness center.
  • A massage and bodywork spa.
  • A sound healing center.
  • An energy healing center.
  • A hypnotherapy practice.
  • A sound healing education center.
  • A free educational resource through the Learning Center.
  • A place for private shopping.
  • A source of continuing support for students and graduates.
  • And a community where people come to learn, receive care, ask questions, explore new possibilities and sometimes simply find a little more peace.

The business has changed enormously since 2011. The heart of it has not.
