Being a Boss is not always easy.
Many employees do not like having a boss but they need one. The definition of a great boss (there really is a definition!) is someone who creates an environment based on integrity, trust, respect and one that encourages feedback, innovation and creativity. Employees in such an atmosphere flourish. So are great bosses just amazing human beings or are they just ordinary people doing great things? Hire good people – A great employer knows what they are looking for, they do not hire just to fill in the gaps. Having a meaningful job description and looking for talent based on the company’s needs is their primary goal. Great bosses focus on the candidates experience and these bosses sell the company’s vision to find out if they’re compatible. Great bosses tend to hire the right people for the position, they appreciate these people and they believe in these people.
Appreciate your employee – Once you hire great talent, a great boss has to tell them how much they are appreciated. They have faith and trust in their team and don’t mind expressing it. They publicly give credit where credit is due, they also welcome feedback and input. They create an atmosphere of trust where employees feel the leader is approachable and encouraging of their participation.
Believing in your employees – Most great bosses can see the large picture. They try to achieve their targets incrementally rather than in large leaps. These bosses expect more from themselves and also they expect more from their employees. These bosses help employees take risks and help them see the impossible as possible. They believe in their employees so they inspire through words, action and most importantly, by example.
Bosses are often the primary reason we hate or love our jobs. If you’re lucky to be loving your job then you may have a great boss who has hired a great employee in you, sees your potential even when you may not and shows you you’re appreciated and believes in your ability to get the job done.
