Lavender, Bergamot and Neroli are the best essential oils to relieve anxiety

Three Essential Oils To Help Anxiety

Are you stressing about the upcoming holiday season?

Whether you’re concerned about being judged for your poor life choices, Grandma Dot’s allergy to gluten or Uncle Bob’s preoccupation with politics, you aren’t alone.

For whatever reason, holidays cause anxiety.

But don’t reach for that bottle of Xanax and Cabernet Sauvignon to drown your sorrows just yet, we have an alternative solution.

Three essential oils; lavender, bergamot and neroli, are great ways to help you forget the racist thing that cousin Susie said and that the turkey you baked was happy as heck in the woods before encountering Uncle Leo in his hunting orange before making it to your oven.

Lavender is the most commonly-known essential oil for promoting anti-anxiety, sleep and calmness. Its properties are pain-relieving, calming, antiseptic and cell-rejuvenating. Would it hurt to diffuse lavender throughout your house before and during the arrival of your family? Many research studies conducted with lavender have concluded it eases stress (especially in dental medicine).

Lavender and Anxiety
Several studies involving different forms of lavender have concluded that lavender improved memory, reduced anxiety and depression-like behavior in participants.

Bergamot is another essential oil that could be diffused during the football game. Almost everyone loves the smell of bergamot. It is cold-pressed from a small-citrus fruit. Historically, it was used in the 17th century as an antiseptic and a fever-reducing remedy.  It also aids in digestion, (how perfect is that!)

Lastly, neroli could be your perfect fit for calming the conversation around the dinner table. It’s properties are sedative, antidepressant and euphoric. It also aids in digestion and similarly, can relieve diarrhea. (Remember the after effects of Aunt Bev’s green bean casserole last year??)

Neroli is also uplifting. Here’s to conversations about the good life (and not to political rants by previously-mentioned uncles).

Each of these oils can be diffused throughout your whole house by an essential oil diffuser.

If you’d like to experience a massage before your holiday, each of these oils will be effective in producing calming effects. Remember to use the single note essential oils and synergy blend oils with a carrier oil. At The OM Shoppe, we use Jojoba oil. It’s a wax oil that allows the lavender, bergamot or neroli to soak into the skin. It does not leave a greasy residue. You won’t feel the need to take a shower right after.

At The OM Shoppe, we have single note essential oils and also synergy blends.
